Now, why don’t we introduce two foreign topics here? First, I heard that the Guinness*1 recognized the world’s shortest woman. Um, well it’s a woman from India. Her name is Ms. Jyoti Amge, 19-years-old, and her height is 62.9 centimeters. The recognition ceremony was a few days ago. It took place on the 86th floor viewing platform of the Empire State Building, which is also a New York tourist attraction*2. Ms. Amge was born and raised in India, and currently attends a two-year junior women’s college; she’s a female college student. She’s being flooded with a lot of attention after she made up her mind to aim for the recognition of Guinness, and she explains her life has changed 180°. Um, until now, I heard that like she has been aiming at India’s film industry, Bollywood, but since she’s become famous, she’d like to work in Hollywood; it’s been said that she’s a little shy.

Notes: Japanese Grammar and Vocabulary

2. This is an honorific expression equivalent to 「観光名所かんこうめいしょでもある」 in a plain way. The sentence continues even though the verb ends with 「ます」. This expression is often used in formal settings.
