Japanese Grammar: やすい にくい

Before starting the exercise for expressing easy or difficult to do 「やすい」「にくい」「づらい」, please clarify any doubts you may have about the grammatical rules by referring to your grammar guidebook or dictionary. The Instantaneous Composition Method requires you to compose sentences with the target sentence pattern(s) over and over in order to use them almost effortlessly. You should already have the necessary knowledge.

Instantaneous Composition Exercise for Expressing Easy or Difficult to Do 「やすい」「にくい」「づらい」

This is not a translation exercise. This is the Instantaneous Composition Exercise. As if a reflexive action, try to create an equivalent Japanese sentence shortly after reading an English script. Try not to think for more than three seconds.

Green tea is easy to drink. 
お茶ちゃは飲のみやすいです。
Hiragana is easy to read. 
ひらがなは読よみやすいです。 
These are the shoes (that are) easy to run in. 
これは走はしりやすい靴くつです。 
This is a sport (that is) easy to enjoy. 
これは楽たのしみやすいスポーツです。 
This meat is hard to eat. 
この肉にくは食たべにくいです。 
This bridge is hard to cross. 
この橋はしは渡わたりにくいです。 
That story is difficult to understand.  
その話はなしはわかりにくいです。
This is difficult to explain. 
これは説明せつめいしづらいです。 
This is hard to say. 
これは言いいづらいです。 
As for the mornings in the winter, (it’s) difficult to get up. 
冬ふゆの朝あさは起おきづらいです。 

Note

にくい and づらい have almost the same meaning. The difference is that when you physically have difficulty, にくい is more suitable and indicates objective judgment. When you mentally have difficulty, づらい is more suitable and indicates subjective judgment.
